So this week is leading up to a holiday weekend. You’re going to see a ton of images and graphics floating around for Independence Day. What are YOU going to create that reflects your personal voice and original content? No – I’m not talking about sharing your brand’s corporate marketing images on all your social media channels.
Original content! This is the way to get engagement with your fans, sharing something that is uniquely you. Maybe it’s a quote… or a photograph… or a picture of your product… something that you yourself make. Start thinking – this is the week to:
1 – Share a brief personal story of a past July 4th memory
2 – Ask your fans/followers/community to share their memories
3 – Get creative with red, white, and blue original graphics
4 – Post a selfie in your best July 4th colors, or share a pic of your kids decked out in your local parade.
5 – Provide a purposeful tip about the holiday: staying safe… using fireworks… a holiday inspired recipe, craft, or design.
6 – Quote one of the Founding Fathers – it’s their holiday, afterall
7 – Content that complements your brand. You sell health/beauty? Show July 4th inspired fingernails or hairstyles. You sell jewelry? Show July 4th inspired outfits that would match your lockets. You sell cookware? Red/white/blue recipes, obviously.
8 – Watch for trending hashtags, and use them strategically. This will help push your content into the search results of people looking for those same hashtags, and expand your reach.
My secret tips? Go wander around Pinterest to get ideas and inspiration. You’ll find a ton that may inspire you to share with your communities, a quote you love, or an image you want to recreate. Slap your watermark on it, and BAM – original content. Go look at Instagram and look up the hashtags #IndependenceDay or #July4th, and look at what people posted last year, to get an idea of what you can post this year.
Holidays are the best times for original content and fan engagement. We’re all rallied around something bigger than ourselves. Think strategically about content that can complement your brand, and you can get some good engagement from your fans and social channels.
